I used to watch Letterman a lot back in the day. We had this VCR my dad bought for like $800. Anyway, I used to record the show and then watch it the next day. It was a JVC and it was a toploader. He bought a toploader so it could sit on the top of the TV. The TV was, what's referred to, as a console TV. See, back then, a TV was just as much a piece of furniture as media vessel. As I recall, the VCR had a remote control with an 8ft. cord that plugged into it. Undoubtedly, it would be placed on the coffee table and someone would walk by and the remote would go flying into another table or the TV. My dad used to get SO pissed off when that would happen.
